Boumediene: Gitmo Detainees Have Habeas Corpus Rights
In what Lyle Dennison, blog writer at SCOTUS blog, characterizes as a "stunning blow to the Bush Administration in its war-on-terrorism policies," the Supreme Court ruled that foreign nationals detained at Camp Gitmo have a right to pursue habeas corpus challenges to their detention. The Court, in a 5 to 4 decision, ruled that Congress had not validly taken away habeas rights.
